Breast Shapes

Breast Shapes

The  breast shapes change over time. We’re going to choose to define three main categories of breast shapes. We’re going to start with normal breasts. And we’re going to define normal breasts as what would be normal for a woman age 18-50 who has had no pregnancies.

Normal Breasts

  • The normal breasts in this category would have a volume of a large B. or a small C. Both breasts would be approximately the same volume and approximately the same shape. The left and right breasts are almost never exactly the same shape. When a woman is standing facing forward the nipples are pointing forward also. Breast can be defying as an upper pole and a lower pole. The upper pole is usually about one third of the breast volume. The lower pole is about two thirds of the breast volume.

The other two categories we will define as abnormalities. The first category is abnormalities that have been caused by life changes. The second category is abnormalities that are caused by abnormal breast development. We are going to deal with the life change category first.

Life Change Breasts

  • The first abnormality in this category is the deflated breasts. The deflated breasts are when the upper pole is almost flat. There has been a loss of volume of the breast. The usual causes of this abnormality are pregnancy and weight loss. The loss of volume is sometimes accompanied by breasts sag.
  • The second abnormality in this category is the saggy breasts. The saggy breasts are when the nipple is dropping down and it’s pointing towards the floor. In this situation the breast is stretched. It is very much like a balloon that is been blown up until it’s about ready to explode. Then the air is let out of the balloon. The elastic in the balloon stays stretched and is looser than it was before being filled up. Saggy breasts are often caused by pregnancy and weight loss. Saggy breasts can also be cause by very large heavy brass where the weight of gravity pulls them down.
  • The third item in this category is surgery or trauma.

Abnormal Breast Development

  • The first abnormality in this category is breast asymmetry. This category is sometimes referred to as breast mismatch. It is normal to have differences in breast size and shape. Those differences are normally small; it’s like the differences between your right hand and your left hand. Sometimes there can be major size and/or shape differences. Rib differences can often make the two breasts appear to have very different shapes.
  • The second abnormality of shape in this category is the breast base deformities. The problem is the lower pole of the breast. It does not develop as fully and is smaller and tighter than it should be. Terms that are used to describe these situations are: triangular breasts and tubular breasts.
  • The third abnormality of shape in this category is the flat chests. In this situation there is no normal breast development and the woman’s chest often looks like she’s 12 years old.
  • The fourth abnormality of shape in this category is when the breasts are very large. Extremely large breasts usually occur during development of the breasts in the teenage years. Extremely large breasts can sometimes occur due to pregnancy or with weight gain. It is very common for women who have extremely large breasts to also have breasts sag.

Breast shapes have been divided into three categories. They are: normal breast shapes, life change breasts, and abnormal breast development. This is a useful way to analyze breast shapes and can be used to describe the differences that are present in breasts.
